The NCCU EMI Resource Center is delighted to welcome two upcoming international academic visits, which marks important steps forward in the advancement of bilingual education and international collaboration at National Chengchi University. On Thursday, April 17th, from 14:45 to 15:45, we will be meeting two esteemed faculty members from the College of Staten Island, City University of New York (CUNY): Lecturer Koral Caruso from the Department of English, and Lecturer Tatiana Pankratova from the CUNY Start Program. They will be visiting our center to engage in professional dialogue and mutual exchange.
Both visiting scholars bring expertise in English instruction and college preparatory education, with a focus on writing pedagogy and language support strategies. Lecturer Caruso has extensive experience teaching first-year writing courses and employs a student-centered approach grounded in active learning and reflective thinking. She also implements culturally responsive teaching practices, integrating diverse student backgrounds into the learning environment. Lecturer Pankratova, as part of the CUNY Start Program, specializes in supporting English language learners in developing both linguistic and academic skills, emphasizing interactive and practical teaching design. Their visit will center on exchanging ideas about EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) strategies, academic writing support, and multilingual student engagement, while also exploring opportunities for future collaboration.
In addition, we look forward to welcoming Dr. Wei-Lun Lu, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, Czech Republic, on Monday, April 21st at 11:30 AM. Dr. Lu’s research encompasses cognitive linguistics, cultural linguistics, and pragmatics, with a particular emphasis on the interface between language and culture. His work offers both theoretical and practical insights into EMI instruction. During his visit, he will engage with the NCCU EMI Resource Center to discuss the design of language teaching, metaphor in classroom discourse, and cultural framing, aiming to inspire further innovations in cross-cultural education.
We extend our sincere thanks to these three international scholars for visiting the NCCU EMI Resource Center. The center continues to use international academic exchange as a bridge to broaden instructional perspectives and deepen the implementation of bilingual education. We look forward to these exciting visits and the rich conversations that will help us build a more globalized and inclusive academic community at NCCU.
