Mini Saga Creative Writing Competition Guidelines
I. Purpose of the Competition
The EMI Resource Center of National Chengchi University (referred to as the Center) aims to promote creative challenges and English writing abilities among our students. Through the medium of “mini sagas,” we provide a platform for students to unleash their imagination and demonstrate their excellent writing skills. We invite every student to explore, create, and share their own captivating story works.
II. Eligibility Requirements
i. Students currently enrolled in National Chengchi University (including graduate students and international students) who possess creative ideas are eligible to participate.
ii. Entries are divided by grade into the “Freshmen,” “Sophomore or Above,” and “International Students”.
III. Format of Entries
i. The word limit is within 50 words, including a title no more than 5 words. The story should be complete, including a beginning, middle development, and ending. The narrative should follow a chronological timeline, with dramatic tension enhancing the storyline’s climax.
ii. All themes are welcome, and participants can submit an unlimited number of entries.
iii. The use of AI text generation tools such as Chat GPT is not allowed. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
iv. To adhere to the word limit, it is suggested to minimize the use of phrasal verbs and opt for concise verbs and effective punctuations control the overall word count. For further writing guidelines and the sample, please refer to Attachment 1.
IV. Competition Schedule
i. The submission period for entries is from now until 5:00 PM on April 8, 2024 (Monday). Please take note of the deadline, and no submissions will be accepted after the specified time.
ii. Winning entries will be announced simultaneously on the official website and our Facebook fan page on April 22, 2024 (Monday).
V. Registration and Submission Procedures
i. This competition only accepts online registration. Please use the official registration Google Form to submit your entry during the submission period. Please be aware of the submission deadline. ii. Be sure to fill in your personal information and complete the “Copyright License Agreement” (See Attachment 2). Upload the file in PDF format and name the file “OOO_Department&Grade_Copyright License Agreement” when registering.
VI. Prizes and Rewards
i. Freshmen Group: one Gold award of NT$5,000; one Silver award of NT$3,000; three Bronze awards of NT$1,000.
ii. Sophomore or Above Group: one Gold award of NT$5,000; one Silver award of NT$3,000; three Bronze awards of NT$1,000 .
iii. International Students Group: one Gold award of NT$4,000; one Silver award of NT$2,000; three Bronze awards of NT$1,000.
iv. Award-winning works will be included in the publications arranged by the EMI Resource Center featured on our Facebook fan page.
v. Those who take part in this competition will receive a special gift from the EMI Resource Center. Participants will be notified by emails.
VII. Additional Notes
i. Entries must be personally created and original, not generated through AI tools, and must not have been submitted to any public competitions or exhibitions. Violation of these rules will result in disqualification, and the winners will have their titles revoked, and prize money will be reclaimed.
ii. Any plagiarism or unauthorized use of others’ works for the competition, if reported and verified, will result in disqualification and the retrieval of prize money. Participants are responsible for any legal consequences related to copyright violations, and the organizer holds no responsibility.
iii. Submitted entries will not be returned. Please keep your original manuscripts, and once submitted, entries cannot be withdrawn.
iv. Entries must be submitted with the “Copyright License Agreement” (See Attachment 2). Submitting an entry is considered an acknowledgment and acceptance of all competition rules. Participants agree to unconditionally authorize the organizer to publicly use the work. The organizer has rights for photography, promotion, publication on the website, and exhibition, and the author may not object.
v. During the period of the copyright of the submitted works, the organizer has the right to utilize or sublicense the work in any way, at any location, and at any time, without the need for any payment.
vi. The organizer reserves the right to modify, change, or temporarily suspend the event. Any matters not covered in these rules may be modified and announced by the organizer at their discretion.
