On March 11, the English Teaching Resource Center at NCCU successfully held the "Academic Writing Tools Introduction Workshop," attracting faculty and students from various disciplines! This interactive and hands-on workshop was led by our writing consultant, Kevin Chen, and assisted by Yu-Che Yen and Gina Jin. He introduced four powerful and practical academic writing tools in the workshop. Participants not only learned valuable writing techniques but also applied them immediately to enhance their academic performance!
Kevin first introduced Writefull, an AI tool specifically designed for academic writing that helps optimize paragraph structures, provides synonym suggestions, and even rewrites sentences and generates titles and abstracts. At the event, participants registered and used this tool on their laptops, tablets, and mobile phones, making their writing more efficient. Kevin then introduced Rubriq, a grammar correction tool that makes academic writing smoother. Participants used Rubriq to modify their own paragraphs, experiencing firsthand how AI improves grammar and vocabulary, with a visual record of revisions that clearly shows the editing process.
Next, Kevin led the group through Linggle Write and Linggle Read, two tools developed by National Tsing Hua University that make writing and reading learning more flexible and efficient! Linggle Write uses AI to analyze article structure in real time, providing precise feedback on vocabulary, grammar, and organization, making it perfect for students looking to improve their academic writing skills. Linggle Read, on the other hand, allows users to check the frequency of word pairings in academic terms and features a voice reading function, helping participants better understand and learn academic content.
The most distinctive feature of this workshop was the hands-on experience and interaction. Under Kevin's guidance, participants operated each tool themselves, from optimizing paragraphs with Writefull, correcting grammar with Rubriq, to scoring essays with Linggle Write and improving their language sense with Linggle Read. Everyone experienced firsthand how AI can support academic writing! Many faculty and students exchanged insights during the session, even comparing the advantages of different tools in real time, creating a lively and engaging learning atmosphere. The workshop not only introduced practical academic writing tools to the participants but also sparked enthusiasm for academic writing, with many expressing their intention to apply these tools to improve the quality and efficiency of their future papers.
The English Teaching Resource Center will continue to provide various academic writing support for NCCU faculty and students, and will organize more practical workshops to help every academic writer enhance their writing skills and overcome the challenges of academic writing!
